Leave the laptop behind, jam with your other gear, and create beats in minutes with a wealth of on-board sounds, instruments, and effects. If anything, a bit more competition in the market is EDIT: always a good thing, and it will be interesting to see what features Akai deems necessary to deliver to the Akai line to respond to the announcement.MASCHINE+ is a sampler, a drum machine, a synth, and an on-stage superpower. Interested to see what they do and what the future may bring. Last year, I would've wondered why there was no battery on this box. where as on the Akai MPC, Akai could always add some context buttons, shortcuts, or what have you on the touch screen, that would otherwise require a brand new hardware model release. To me, the lack of a touch screen is not a deal breaker, but it also puts a pretty hard limit on what the interface can do in the future. They've also been dabbling in some of the newer CPU architecture (see Massive X), that even if this is an Intel CPU, likely won't run on this box. and it's likely that a lot (if not most of) the NI synths won't work on this box. my concern is that "standalone" likely limits integration. If you're able to pop off of the PC to move Reaktor patches into this device, it certainly becomes a whole lot more interesting. ![]() I'd be interested to see the Reaktor integration as well. if they can get Kontakt fully ported over, that's super interesting. On the other hand, if it's closed like the Akai MPC system, well. I'd imagine a lot more people would be looking to hack in VSTs and other synths. ![]() It will be interesting to see what they have operating under the hood.
